Womens Cell

The Women Cell in Bharata Mata College of Commerce and Arts, Choondy is true to its name, a platform for the women staff and students of the college to their woes, grievances and frustration and also to provide a platform for listening to complaints. The cell also tries to incorporate hygiene habits and ensure a healthy atmosphere in and around the college. It tries to equip them with the knowledge of their legal rights and redress of their grievances. To facilitate speedy delivery of justice, meetings are organised regularly. Besides these the cell conducts seminars, lectures by specialist and eminent personality to stop violence against women, about health hygiene and events such as craft workshop, health and beauty care class. The Cell has been working to raise awareness on gender equality issues and the ultimate aim is to makes sure that all its women members are empowered through the women cell which regularly discusses relevant issues for women and topics on society at large. It provides a platform for the rural girls who form the majority of the student community.

Women cell was formally inaugurated on 4th December 2015 and named as “AMIGA” by firebrand social activist Ms. C. K. Janu who is widely acknowledged as a crusader against social and gender discrimination.

The women Cell is currently and aptly christened “ABIRA” which means boldness in Hebrew. Without courage, no women can march ahead. We have been trying to inculcate boldness in our staff and students.


1. To develop the self-confidence of Women.

2. To highlight the importance of health and hygiene.

3. To organize seminars, workshops relating to women development.

4. To directs Women’s role in the society.

5. To develop multidisciplinary approach for the overall personality development.

6. To create social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination.
